Iraq parliament discusses procedures of the Central Bank to issue new currency

In its 5th plenary session of the first legislative year- fourth electoral cycle, held on Tuesday October 9, 2018, the Iraqi Council of Representatives discussed procedures of the Central Bank to issue new currency and named two rapporteurs.
The session was chaired by the First Deputy Speaker Hasan al-Kaabi and attended by 225 MPs.
At the beginning of the session, Mr. Ghaleb Mohammed Ali Shukr was sworn in as a member of the Council of Representatives.
Al-Kaabi then remarked that the Council hosted the Minister of Higher Education yesterday to discuss the transit system and universities admission rates.
The Council voted on the Interim Parliamentary Committee formed to amend the rules of procedure.
Al-Kaabi announced holding a joint meeting chaired by him including the Legal Committee and the Interim Committee to amend the rules of procedure in the coming days. He directed The Legal Committee to hold a meeting in the Constitutional Hall tomorrow to elect a Chairman and a Deputy Chairman of the Committee and for those who want to be nominated should submit a request on this matter.
On a different note, the Presidency of the Council decided to name MP Khadija Ali and MP Burhanuddin Ishaq as rapporteurs of the Council of Representatives.
The Council discussed procedures of the Central Bank to issue new currency after the majority of deputies voted to add the issue on the agenda.
Al-Kaabi called for holding special session to host the central bank governor and the management officials in the coming days to discuss the central bank’s transactions and monetary policy since it is under the supervision of the House of Representatives.
