Al-Kaabi pledges to legislate Freedom of Information law

The First Deputy Speaker pledged to legislate Freedom of Information law in the coming phase of the work of the Council of Representatives, stressing that the legislation of this law contributes to detect cases of corruption found in the executive institutions and improving proceedings for them.
This came during his chairmanship of a meeting in the Council of Representatives on Saturday, 11/24 to discuss the legislative proposal for the Freedom of Information law, with the participation of the organization of the Tower of Babel and related bodies and institutions such as the Ministry of the Interior , Iraqi Journalists Syndicates , the Bar Association , Integrity Commission and Commission for Human Rights and the Iraqi Media Network, in addition to the attendance of competent authorities’ officials.
Al-Kaabi remarked that getting access to information is an essential form of democracy, pointing out that the adoption of the law contributes significantly to monitoring the work of the institutions and dismantling corruption cases.
