Al-Kaabi announced reaching radical solutions concerning dues of the families of martyrs and political prisoners

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, a seminar was held on the personal initiative of the First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Karim al-Kaabi to resolve the issue of dues of martyrs and political prisoners.
The seminar was attended by the head of the Martyrs’ Institution Najah al-Shammari, the head of the Prisoners’ Institution Hussein al-Sultani, the head of the Investment Commission Sami al-Araji, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Maher Hammad, officials of the Ministries of Higher Education, Education, Housing and Municipalities, Baghdad Municipality and General Retirement.
Al-Kaabi said that there are a number of problems and obstacles that prevent the families of the martyrs and prisoners from obtaining their dues, which were approved by the laws, most of them related to the dull routine, resulting in an increase in the injustice of these segments.
The meeting resulted in a series of recommendations including allocating lands as soon as possible, or including them in apartment buildings in the investment complexes. The Ministry of Finance and Municipalities shall pay the dues according to the law and a paragraph will be included in 2019 budget concerning paying the debts of the students’ class.
In conclusion, al-Kaabi stressed the need to implement all laws relating to the rights of martyrs and political prisoners, confirming the Council of Representatives’ following up of this issue and in coordination with the government represented by the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Council of Ministers.
