Al-Kaabi stresses holding Kirkuk’s upcoming elections as scheduled

The First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Karim al-Kaabi chaired on Monday 24-6-2019 the joint meeting to discuss the latest preparations for the local council elections in Kirkuk governorate. The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Legal Committee, the Committee of the Regions and Governorates, Representatives the province of Kirkuk, the head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, and representatives of the Ministries of Interior, Immigration, Planning, Trade, and Health and Environment in addition to the representative of the United Nations International Mission.
During the meeting, they discussed the issue of voters’ records in Kirkuk province. The head of High Electoral Commission remarked that 60% of voters’ records has be updated, which represents 600,000 voters and that the rest will be updated soon in coordination with the concerned Ministries. He stressed that the only obstacle is the displacement issue, calling for the support of the government and the Council of Representatives to overcome these obstacles as soon as possible.
The views of the representatives of the concerned Ministries were also discussed to ensure the transparency of the elections.
