Al-Halboosi receives the High Representative for Security Policy and Foreign Affairs of the European Union

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received, on Saturday, the High Representative for Security Policy and Foreign Affairs in the European Union, Mrs. Federica Mugherini and her accompanying delegation.

In the presence of the Chairman and members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, H.E. discussed the relations with the European Union, pointing out that Iraq today is much better to establish close and multi-relationship after his victory in the war on terrorism and that the directions of the Iraqi government and the House of Representatives is openness to the Arab, regional and international environment and in all areas to be reflected positively on the interests of the Iraqi people.

The Speaker stressed the keenness of the House of Representatives to strengthen its relations with the countries of the European Union, the European Parliament and Parliaments of all the Union, noting that parliamentary diplomacy is important to strengthen relations between peoples.

H.E. reviewed the efforts of the Iraqi political forces and their components in strengthening the political situation in Iraq, which reflected on the security and economic situation better than in previous years, pointing out the need of Iraq to the support of the European Union and the international community in general for development and reconstruction in Iraq and cooperation in resolving IDPs file.

For her part, Mrs. Mugherini expressed her admiration for the development and stability in Iraq, stressing the readiness of the Union to support the Iraqi government to implement its program, pointing to Iraq’s success in developing a balanced political position in the region, and to the EU’s efforts to develop its participation in the process of building and reconstruction in liberated areas and expand its rehabilitation projects in all economic and security fields.
