The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received the British Ambassador to Iraq Mr. Jon Wilks.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the importance of approving the draft law of the first amendment to the law of elections of provincial councils and districts not listed in a region No. 12 of 2018 and carrying out elections.

The meeting discussed activating the efforts of the international community and donor countries, including Britain, to rebuild, invest and work on strategic projects within the British facilities provided to the Iraqi government, and the need to address the bureaucracy and administrative corruption that impede such projects, work to complete the requirements of the return of the displaced to their homes and achieve stability, and affirm the continuing joint cooperation to eliminate the cells of ISIS terrorist organization.

On the level of political and security developments in the region, the meeting stressed the necessity of reducing the escalation and not dragging the region into a conflict that affects the security of international navigation and stopping it, and that all should work to calm down and defuse the crisis to avoid any steps that will lead to further tension in the future.

For his part, Ambassador Wilks expressed his admiration for the high patriotic spirit of all the Iraqi people and their desire to proceed with the national project with a joint Iraqi national vision, adding that this requires additional efforts of the political forces to succeed and achieve results on the ground, emphasizing that his country will continue its cooperation with Iraq in all fields, including security and economic, pointing to the need to support investment and investors and provide suitable environment for them and protect investment companies, including oil.
