Parl. Speaker visits a displaced camp

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi on Sunday, visited the camp of displaced people in Ameriyat al-Fallujah, accompanied by a number of MPs, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Immigration and Displaced, the President of the Reconstruction Fund for Iraq, the governor of Anbar, a number of officials and the United Nations representative in Iraq Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss the situation of the displaced and find the ways to accelerate their return home.

H.E. the Speaker said during a gathering inside the camp that this meeting is not a routine one, but a meeting between the legislative and executive authorities in Iraq and the international community to accelerate the resolution of the file of displaced people in the country and end their suffering, stressing the need to work quickly and seriously to end their problems socially, security and politically, and that the victory over terrorism will not be completed without the return of the displaced to their homes, adding that it is necessary to celebrate the return of the last displaced and the closure of the last camp as soon as possible.

The Parl. Speaker also met with a large number of displaced people in the camp and listened to their problems, which will be followed up with the relevant authorities, assuring them that the Parliament and the government are keen to end this suffering.

For her part, the UN representative, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, pledged to support all efforts and help achieve the voluntary return of all displaced people.
