The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi on Monday, met with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg to discuss strengthening bilateral relations in all fields.
At the outset of the meeting, His Excellency welcomed the Norwegian Prime Minister for visiting Baghdad after the victory over the terrorist ISIS, praising Norway’s contribution with the international coalition to support Iraq during its war against terrorism, which targeted the whole world.
The speaker said that Iraq looks forward to a long-term future partnership with Norway, and this requires strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and opening an embassy for Norway in the country as well as activating the Iraqi-Norwegian friendship committees.
He called for joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields, including investment and benefit from the expertise of Norwegian companies in building and reconstruction, contribute to the efforts to return the displaced people, achieve stability and continued cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
The meeting also discussed security developments in the region and their impact on the country, pointing out that Iraq is not insulated from its surroundings and does not want to be a battleground as much as being a meeting point between the parties, stressing that the stability of Iraq is an important factor for the stability of the region.
For her part, Norwegian Prime Minister expressed her country’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Iraq, affirming her country’s commitment to partnership and support the Iraqi government in its efforts to combat terrorism, building and reconstruction and stability.
