Al-Halboosi receives a delegation from the US House of Representatives

 

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received the US House of Representatives delegation headed by Representative of the Democratic Party in Washington and Chairman of the Armed Forces Committee Mr. Adam Smith to discuss relations between the two countries and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

H.E. the Speaker reviewed the political developments in the country, the legitimate demands of the demonstrators, the reforms package approved by the Parliament and the procedures related to the constitutional amendments and the electoral law, stressing the need to protect the demonstrators, not to attack the security forces while maintaining peaceful demonstrations and work on radical reforms to provide a decent life for the Iraqi people.

The meeting discussed relations between Baghdad and Washington and the need to expand economic cooperation between the two countries and develop investment to achieve employment opportunities for youth.

H.E. also discussed the efforts of the US-led international coalition in fighting the Islamic State terrorist organization and pursuing its cells, achieving stability in the liberated cities and assisting the return of the displaced to their cities.

For their part, the head and members of the US delegation expressed Washington’s readiness to provide more support to Iraq politically, economically and militarily and to maintain its stability and unity of its people and territorial integrity.

The delegation also called for the need for economic and political reforms and to meet the demands of the demonstrators and protect them.
