Al-Halboosi receives UN representative to Iraq

 

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the UN representative to Iraq.

During the meeting, H.E. the Speaker reviewed the latest political developments in the country, the legitimate demands of the demonstrators and the urgent measures taken to draw up a roadmap for the radical reforms of the political process in the country, including constitutional amendments and the directions of the Interim Committee formed by the Parliament, which decided to be in permanent session and expand its work by inviting Constitutional Law experts and all segments of Iraqi society and representatives of the demonstrators to participate in the amendments.

H.E. also discussed with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the initiative of comprehensive national dialogue, which will include all presidencies, leaders of political blocs, the spectrum of Iraqi society, judges, unions and Syndicates and representatives of the demonstrators with the participation of the UN and the representatives of the accredited states to Iraq, to form a better present and future life to the Iraqi people.

For her part, Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert expressed the readiness of the United Nations to provide assistance at all levels to achieve the objectives of this dialogue and to be a guarantor of its results and stand at the same distance from all to achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi people and maintain the stability, security and national unity of Iraq, stressing the need to guarantee freedom of expression within the framework of democratic practices and the rule of law, to prevent all forms of violations and to protect public and private properties.
