Al-Kaabi, UN delegation agree to reformulate and reform electoral system to meet demonstrators’ demands

The First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Karim Kaabi received in his office on Wednesday, November 20 Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq Ms. Alice Walpole and her accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed the provisions of the Iraqi Parliamentary Elections Law, the Independent High Electoral Commission Law and the texts that should be amended and added to both. The two sides agreed to continue holding meetings to meet the needs and demands of the people, and contribute to the stability of the democratic and electoral process as a whole.
Al-Kaabi called for investing the time and intensify efforts through holding intensive meetings to study the texts contained in both laws.
For her part, Ms. Walpole expressed the readiness of the United Nations to provide all kinds of support through a permanent presence in the legislative institution and constant coordination with the legal authorities until reaching the stage of voting on the two most important laws in the Iraqi state.
