COR accepts PM’s resignation and discusses recent events in Dhi Qar and the holy city of Najaf

In its 20th plenary session held on Sunday, 1st December 2019 the Iraqi Coucil of Representatives approved the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and discussed the security updates in Dhi Qar and the holy city of Najaf.
The session was chaired by H.E the Speaker Mohammad al-Halbusi and attended by 241 MPs.
At the outset of the session, Surat Al-Fatiha was recited for the souls of the martyrs of Dhi Qar, the holy city of Najaf and other governorates.
Al-Halbousi recited the Prime Minister’s resignation letter. Then the Council voted to accept the resignation.
The Council then discussed the security updates in Dhi Qar and the holy city of Najaf.
For his part, the Speaker announced that the Presidency of COR had agreed to prepare a draft resolution that included the demands submitted by the representatives of the governorates of Dhi Qar and Najaf and the assignment of Finance, Services, Health, Human Rights and Legal Committees to include these requests in federal budget for fiscal year 2020.
