The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi council of representatives, Dr. Bashir Khalil Al-Haddad, received today 12/12/2019 at his official office in Baghdad, Mr. William Spence Spencer, Executive Director of the International Law and Human Rights Institute and Mr. Najm Al-Khafaji, Director of the Iraq Office of the Institute, and during the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen coordination and cooperation mechanisms between the House of Representatives and the Institute of International Law as well as discussing a number of topics and issues of common interest.

Al-Haddad indicated at the meeting that the parliament continues to perform its work and oversight functions to adoption laws and legislations that are in line with the requirements of the current phase and to respond to the legitimate demands of peaceful demonstrators, The Council voted on an important package of laws and decisions, including the cancellation of privileges for officials, the amendment of the Unified Retirement Law and the Law of the Independent High Electoral Commission and the formation of a special committee to proceed with constitutional amendments, Adding H.E. “that the meetings of the Legal Committee with the parliamentary blocs are continuing and under the supervision of the presidium of the Council to pass the election law of the Iraqi council of representatives, There are other important laws in the legislative procedures , the most important of which are the Federal Court Law, the Federal Council Law, and service laws that affect the daily life of citizens. ”

For his part, William Spencer stressed the readiness of the Institute of International Law and Human Rights to provide consultations and enable Deputies to perform parliamentary work in line with developments in society. Stressing the importance of continued cooperation between the Federal Parliament and the Kurdistan Parliament in a manner that enhances the parliamentary work of legislative institutions and the exchange of experiences and visits between committees in order to provide the necessary services to citizens through legislation and laws in force in order to alleviate their daily suffering in all governorates of Iraq.
