The Parliament’s Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi, on Wednesday received the French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss relations between the two countries and activate joint cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the Speaker welcomed the French President in Iraq, praising his country’s efforts to support Iraq. For his part, the French President expressed his thanks for the good reception, saying: “I was keen to visit Iraq, which is my first visit to it after several ministerial visits, in order to express our support for Iraq and the historical and democratic stage it is going through”, adding “there is a history linking our two countries and we have fought terrorism together and we will continue”, praising the courage of the Iraqi armed forces, confirming his country’s desire to strengthen the partnership with Iraq, and announcing the development of a joint road map for cooperation between the two countries.
The Parliament’s Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi affirmed the legislative authority’s support for the Iraqi government to proceed with the steps of joint cooperation between the two countries that reflects in the interest of the two friendly peoples, confirming the strengthening of the parliamentary diplomacy and activating the representative work of the legislative authorities in both friendly countries.
His Excellency the Speaker also praised France’s efforts to support Iraq in its war against ISIS and the continued pursuit of its remnants, calling for more cooperation between Iraq and its friends to ensure the return of all displaced people to their homes.
For his part, the French President affirmed the adoption of strategic economic, social and educational development, pointing to the need for continuous cooperation between the two countries and the two legislative authorities to implement this strategy through the MPs as representatives who will express the need of their regions, stressing that the President of the French Assembly will communicate with H.E. the Speaker to coordinate cooperation between the two parliaments to start implementing the strategy in all regions of Iraq, pointing out that France is aware of the challenges facing Iraq and it is on Iraqi side.
