Today, Monday 7/12/2020, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Bashir Khalil Al-Haddad stressed the need to legislate a national law to fight domestic violence in the Council of Representatives, provided that the law meets international standards and social values ​​and takes into account the privacy of Iraqi society, It is an important step to prevent, deal with and fight these violations, Provided that this is combined with legal and human rights awareness and the spreading of a rights culture of every member of the family, man, woman or child, They are binding human rights. His Eminence ’s speech delivered during his patronage of the dialogue session to enhance the role of female representatives in building security and peace, which was set up by the Parliamentary Women, Family and Childhood Committee today in the Council Building / Shabibi Hall, In cooperation with the Iraqi Al-Amal Association, and with the support of the United Nations Women in Iraq, on the occasion of the 16-days campaign against violence against women.

 

Al-Haddad stated: “Increasing awareness and education towards the continuation of efforts and endeavors by governmental institutions and civil organizations to combat violence and prevent negative manifestations against women and the family is very important, but extremely important. Because it is directly related to the stability and protection of the family, and the spread of security, peace and tranquility throughout society, Unfortunately, domestic violence is still a big problem in Iraq despite the fact that the Iraqi constitution prohibits all forms of violence and abuse in the family. “referring to the importance of the role of female representatives in the legislative institution and the extent of the continuous efforts by them and in coordination with their brothers in the Council of Representatives for joint work and creating an appropriate atmosphere to legislate the Family Protection Law from Violence, In line with the standards of justice, equality and human dignity called for by our true religion and all divine messages, It was stipulated by UN resolutions 1325, and the CEDAW agreement, which Iraq has ratified since 1986.
