Chaired by His Excellency, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Dr. Bashir Khalil Al-Haddad, the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee held today, Wednesday, 1/13/2021, an expanded meeting in the Council building (Al-Shabibi Hall) in the presence of the Chairman of the Committee and a number of its members. The directors of prisons in the governorate of Baghdad were hosted to discuss the general conditions of prisoners and detainees. Al-Haddad, at the beginning of the conversation, pointed out that the task of prison administration is sensitive and precise because it is linked to human reform, correcting his behavior and creating appropriate conditions for the rehabilitation of prisoners, Adding His Eminence, saying: “Dealing with prisoners and detainees must take into account international human rights standards, combating violence and torture in prisons,
And a commitment to the Law of Reform of Inmates and Depositors No. (14) of 2018, Stressing that the Presidium of the Council of Representatives supports this file and seeks with the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee and the Ministry of Justice to unify efforts and typical rules to address problems and obstacles and provide a greater measure of procedures and measures necessary to care for and rehabilitate inmates and depositors and reintegrate them into society.
