During his meeting with representatives of CSOs, Al-Kaabi: Our goal now is to legislate laws to protect not only the state’s interest but also human rights

The First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Karim al-Kaabi received in his office today, Tuesday, 13 April 2021, representatives of the Iraqi Women Network: Ms Hana Edwar, Ms. Amal Kabbashi Faraj, Ms. Suhaila Abdul Hussein,Ms. Marwa Abdul Ridha Aliwi and Ms. Hana Hammoud Abbas, in the presence of MPs Salam Al-Shammari and Hussein Arab.
During the meeting, al-Kaabi remarked, “the Council of Representatives will discuss and approve during the next phase some important laws; laws that guarantee constitutional freedoms and protect not only the state’s interest but also human rights”. He stressed that any law related to human rights will not be approved only after being reviewed by civil society organizations, research centers, academics, specialists, trade unions and public opinion.
They also discussed the importance of legislating the domestic violence law and agreed on the possibility of holding workshops or seminars in the presence of professionals to discuss the law.
