Al-Halboosi receives British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Secretary
The Parliament’s Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Secretary Dominic Raab.
The meeting discussed developing relations and enhancing means of strategic cooperation in the field of security, economy, and investment between the two countries and international support for elections, in addition to the regional circumstances surrounding Iraq.
The meeting stressed the importance of the upcoming early elections and the necessity of creating the necessary conditions for them and enhancing electoral security for both the candidate and the voter, as well as the importance of the role of international monitoring to enhance voter confidence in the election results.
It also discussed the importance of economic reform and facilitating investment in Iraq, which contributes to providing job opportunities for youth and reducing unemployment.
The meeting discussed the importance of continuing cooperation between the two countries in the field of combating terrorism, eliminating ISIS terrorist cells, combating extremism, supporting stability efforts and returning the displaced to their areas.
His Excellency the Speaker stressed the need to make more efforts of the international community to support Iraq to achieve stability, calling on British companies to invest in Iraq and expand the horizons of economic cooperation.
For his part, the British Foreign Secretary affirmed his country’s commitment to support the Iraqi government and people and to cooperate in all fields in order to achieve development and stability.
