The Committee on Women, Family and Childhood participates in the technical meeting related to the issue of seats allocations and gender quota

In response to an invitation submitted by the Election Committee and in cooperation with the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the Parliamentary Committee on Women, Family, and Childhood participated in the technical meeting to discuss seat allocations and women’s quotas.

The meeting was opened with a speech by Dr. Ahlam Al-Jabri, member of the Board of Commissioners and Chair of the Supreme Committee overseeing the participation of women in the elections, after welcoming the distinguished attendees, in which she outlined the procedures of the Commission seeking to increase the quota for women in accordance with the law and in cooperation with the COR through the Legal and Women’s committees.

On the other hand, MP Al-Ghazzi expressed the opinion of the Parliamentary Legal Committee on the possibility of raising the women’s quota and the number of seats by adding new paragraphs to the recently issued election law and voting on them in the House of Representatives, and that the committee is continuing to prepare a study to that effect.

The MP thanked all the efforts of the teamwork who prepared this meeting.
