Al-Halboosi meets the Speaker of the Arab Parliament

The Parliament’s Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, met in Cairo on Thursday with the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mr. Adel bin Abdul Rahman al-Asumi.
An expanded session of talks was held between the two sides on developments in the country, ways to enhance cooperation between the Arab Parliament and the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and developments in the Arab region.
During the meeting, al-Halboosi stressed that the Arab Parliament, under its current presidency, is making valuable and unprecedented efforts in supporting all Arab issues, not just Iraq, pointing to the importance of continuous coordination with the Arab Parliament on all issues of concern to Arab peoples.
The two sides agreed to hold one of the upcoming sessions of the Arab Parliament in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, at the headquarters of the Iraqi Parliament, as an important message to emphasize Arab support for Iraq and discuss mechanisms for its support at all levels, and a number of Arab economic events will also be organized on the sidelines of this session, to support attracting Arab and international investments to Iraq.
For his part, al-Asumi affirmed the Arab Parliament’s firm position to support Iraq’s stability, internal unity and sovereignty, and its total rejection of any regional or external interference in its internal affairs, stressing that Iraq represents a pivotal and major country in the Arab region and in the regional system as a whole, and that its return to the Arab incubator represents the great strategic importance of the joint Arab action system, and a qualitative addition to safeguarding Arab national security.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament also expressed his aspiration that the upcoming elections next October would fulfill the aspirations of the Iraqi people with all its components, for security, stability and a decent life, stressing the readiness of the Arab Parliament to participate in monitoring these elections, in order to participate in this important democratic event.
