Al-Halbusi, his Turkish counterpart discuss Iraq’s water crisis

The Speaker Mohammad al-Halbusi met on Tuesday with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ben Ali Yildirim on the sidelines of the Third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments in Antalya on Tuesday.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations, trade, and the political and security situation in the region, as well as the water issue. Al-Halbusi called on Turkish authorities to increase the flow of water into the Tigris River and to contribute positively to resolving the issue. “We hope for a fair solution to this issue in accordance with the principles of international law”, al-Halbusi added. He remarked that Iraq engaged in a war on the behalf of the world and that today it is in dire need for support of all allies and friends in this area to reconstruct the liberated areas.
For his part, Mr. Yildirim lauded the progress of the political process in Iraq, wishing Iraq further development and progress in all fields and affirmed the deep historical ties between Iraq and Turkey at all levels.
