Al-Kaabi stresses need to expedite implementation of provisions of the Prisoners’ Law and grant their parents right to pursue postgraduate studies

The First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Karim al-Kaabi stressed that “only 25% of provisions of the Prisoners’ Law has not been implemented due to the routine followed by the executive departments”.
During his meeting on Sunday, 2-December-2018 with the head of the Political Prisoners institution Hussein Ali Al-Sultani and a number of Directors-General of the institution, al-Kaabi said that the political prisoners continue to suffer until this moment because they do not receive their full right, which are stipulated by law, and here we do not mean material rights only, but also moral compensation for years of deprivation, torture and persecution of them and their families.

“The age of the majority of the prisoners range between 50 and 70 and most of them have not been able to complete their studies, and need health and psychological care, which the state did not offer them, even though they represent a historic era that resisted the Baath regime.”
He also promised to follow up all requests for transfer from one Ministry to another as well as the legislative proposal for the third amendment to the law of prisoners upon arrival at the Council of Representatives.
