Al-Halboosi meets the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran

 

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, met on Wednesday, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani.

The meeting discussed enhancing the bilateral relations and expanding the horizons of cooperation in the security and economic fields, as well as the latest security and political developments in the region.

Al-Halboosi stressed Iraq’s aspiration to support its government to meet the requirements of its program by contributing to the reconstruction of Iraq, which its infrastructure has damaged because of the war, on behalf of all, against terrorism and extremist ideology.

H.E. added that Iraq seeks to be a meeting point and not an arena for settling differences, stressing the need for cooperation between Iraq and Iran with the countries of the region to restore stability to the region.

“The presence of the international coalition in Iraq with the approval of the Iraqi state is to support the elimination of Daesh organization and this presence will pose no danger or threat to the neighbourhood of Iraq and we will not allow to use Iraqi territory to harm our neighbors,” the Speaker said.

He praised Iran for standing with Iraq in its fight against terrorism and support for its unity, pointing out the necessity of enhancing communication between the two countries and expanding the horizons of cooperation in various fields for the interest of both peoples.

For his part, Rouhani stressed his country’s support for Iraq in all fields, thus contributing to the achievement of security and stability.
