Al-Halboosi meets the Speaker of the Iranian Shoura Council

 

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi met with a parliamentary delegation, on Wednesday, Ali Larijani the Speaker of the Iranian Shoura Council.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations, the activation of parliamentary friendship committees, expanding the horizons of cooperation in all fields, the most important challenges facing the region and the need to coordinate positions in international forums in response to these challenges and for the interest of both peoples.

H.E. stressed that Iraq, after its victory over Daesh, still faces challenges related to reconstruction, the return of the displaced and the imposition of stability and must be supported by friends in this area, as Iraq has fought a war on behalf of the world against an extremist organization and defeat it with the efforts and the blood of its sons of the security forces as well as the support of friendly countries.

He added that Iraq is keen to maintain the common relationship between the two countries, pointing out Iraq’s firm stance on the use of its territory to launch any attack or aggression on neighbouring countries and countries of the region, referring that it can not be used as a platform for attacks, and also emphasising the position of Iraq that rejects the sanctions imposed on the peoples.

For his part, Larijani thanked Iraq’s stance on the sanctions against Iran, stressing his country’s support for Iraq in all fields, including continuing to supply electricity, adding that Iraq is behaving wisely and has proved that it has strong forces that have succeeded in defeating terrorism, welcoming Iraq point of view to preserve its sovereignty and consider it a red line.

Al-Halboosi extended an invitation to his Iranian counterpart to participate in the Baghdad Summit of the parliaments of the neighbouring countries of Iraq and the latter promised to meet it.
