Al-Kaabi commemorates 31st anniversary of chemical attack on Halabja

The First Deputy Speaker Hasan Karim al-Kaabi recalled the 31st anniversary of the chemical bombardment of the city of Halabja by former dictatorship regime of Ba’ath, which resulted in the deaths of 5,000 citizens and the injury of thousands.
Al-Kaabi remarked, “With more pain and sadness, we recall on this day, 16/3/1988 of 31 years ago, as the former dictatorship regime of Saddam bombed the city of Halabja with chemical weapons which has led to the deaths of 5,000 innocent citizens and the injury of about 10,000 others.”
He added, “What happened in Halabja is a reflection of the magnitude of criminality that characterized the former Ba’ath regime in its dealings with the people and the various components,” pointing out that “this is what makes us adhere to and focus on the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence and adherence to the constitution.”
al-Kaabi said that, “the crime of Halabja will remain a disgrace on the face of the former regime, but will remain immortal in the book of humanity as one of the cities that paid a heavy price in the face of dictatorship and freedom from tyranny”, stressing that “the Council of Representatives will remain a firm defender of Halabja rights.”
