Al-Halboosi: “Iraq transcended political sectarianism and left it irreversible”

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi received, in the presence of the First Deputy Mr. Hassan al-Kaabi, the Governor of the Central Bank Mr. Ali al-Allaq, a number of MPs and heads of blocs, on Wednesday, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri and his accompanying delegation.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. welcomed Mr. Berri and the delegation accompanying him, pointing to the depth of historical relations and the common future between the two countries.

During the meeting, H.E. affirmed that Iraq has overcomed political sectarianism and left it forever, and seeks to work effectively in opening up to the Arab environment and to be a meeting point to solve the problems of the region, stressing the importance of communication and joint action in the interest of the two brotherly countries.

“We are keen to unify the Arab position, especially on the common Arab Nation issues in international forums, especially the Palestinian issue,” he said, referring to Iraq’s steadfast stance on the issue, and stressing the Arab land of Syrian Golan.

Al-Halboosi added that trade is the mainstay of relations between countries and peoples, “so we are keen to facilitate our trade, economic and investment relations and strengthen them with our brothers”.

The meeting discussed the continuation of cooperation in the field of banking and exchange in the experiences and consultations between the two countries for the Lebanese banks expertise, stressing that the banks are a gateway to enter the Lebanese private sector and facilitate its investments in Iraq.

The meeting also touched on the visa file between Iraq and Lebanon and the residence of investors and the provision of facilities, approaching to cancel the visa between the two countries.

For his part, Berri thanked the Parliament Speaker for his invitation to visit Iraq for the first time since the sixties, blessing the victories of its people on terrorism, pointing out that his visit to Iraq is important for Lebanon and it is not a protocol visit, indicating that there was a brotherly and friendship agreement between the Iraqi and Lebanese Parliaments as well as signing of an agreement between the two countries for commercial, cultural, artistic, technical and scientific cooperation.
