Al-Halboosi receives Secretary General of Arab League

‏The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi on Tuesday, received the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit in the presence of a number members of the Foreign Relations Committee, Iraqi Foreign Minister, Mr. Mohammed Ali al-Hakim and a number of the Ministry’s officials.

‏During the meeting, H.E. the Speaker discussed the importance of activating the role of the Arab League to support Iraq’s efforts to confront terrorism and urging Arab countries to fulfill their stated commitments to Iraq and implement all relevant resolutions and to have an active role in addressing Arab and regional crises.

‏He said that “Iraq, having achieved stability and victory over terrorist organizations will work hard to activate its role as an active and founding member of the Arab League,” a that taffirming that Iraqi Parliament will provide all support to strengthen Arab positions on the fateful issues, especially the Palestinian cause, as well as support the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to fulfill Iraq’s financial obligations to the Arab League.

‏For his part, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the new Iraq, which won the battle against terrorism and emerged from all crises successfully, will play a leading role in the Arab and regional area, pointing out the progress achieved in the political process along with security and stability.

‏The Iraqi Foreign Minister made a presentation on Iraq’s efforts at all levels to enable the Arab League to play its role to achieve Arab solidarity.
