COR discusses Electoral Law and the Law of Independent High Electoral Commission

In its 18th plenary session held on Monday 25/11/2019, the Iraqi Council of Representatives discussed the legislative proposals for Electoral Law and the Law of Independent High Electoral Commission.
The session was chaired by H.E the Speaker Mohammad al-Halbusi and attended by 225 MPs.
At the outset of the session, the Speaker stressed the importance of proceeding with the legislation of the Electoral Law and the Law of Independent High Electoral Commission, stressing the need to restore the people’s confidence in the country’s political system and meet public demands.
The Council started reading and discussing the legislative proposal for the Law of Election of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
During al-Kaabi’s part in chairing the session, the Council read the report and discussed the legislative proposal for the Independent High Electoral Commission submitted by the Legal Committee.
Al-Kaabi called for the continuation of meetings and the submission of views and proposals to the Legal Committee on the legislative proposal of the Electoral Commission in order to speed up its ratification.
The session was then adjourned to next Tuesday 26/11/2019.
