‏Al-Halboosi holds a meeting to discuss the technical and administrative preparations for holding early elections

‏The Parliament’s Speaker Mohammed Al-Halboosi, on Monday, in the presence of his Second Deputy, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Legal Committee, held a meeting with members of the Independent High Electoral Commission and the Supreme Security Committee; to discuss the technical and administrative preparations for holding early elections. The meeting was attended by a representative of the United Nations Mission in Iraq.
‏The meeting reviewed the steps that the commission is working on in preparation for holding the elections, and work to overcome the obstacles facing its work, including preparing the electoral budget, shortage of cadres, enhancing job stability for the institution and its cadres, as well as distributing and issuing the biometric card.
‏The meeting called on the Commission to take field measures that contribute to solving the problem of distributing and issuing the biometric card, including activating mobile teams to increase the proportion of those who hold it and take all necessary measures to distribute it, as well as the possibility of coordinating the Commission with the Ministry of Interior to take advantage of its biometric data and its potential to increase the number of registered biometrics.
‏The meeting stressed the importance of the Commission’s coordination and cooperation with the United Nations Mission in Iraq to benefit from its advice on the measures taken, as well as the importance of its supervision of the upcoming elections process to be credible, in addition to monitoring the organizations concerned with the electoral issue.
‏The possibility of cooperation between the commission, the presidencies of the appeal in the governorates and the university cadres was also discussed in strengthening supervision over the course of the upcoming electoral process in coordination with the Supreme Judicial Council and other concerned authorities.
‏The Speaker confirmed during the meeting the parliament’s support for the work of the Commission, stressing the need to preserve its independence, in order to restore the citizen’s confidence in the electoral process and its outputs, calling on the commission to intensify its efforts to complete its preparations for holding early elections.
