On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the martyr Halabja tragedy on March 16, 1988, and under the patronage of the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Bashir Khalil Al-Haddad, the Council of Representatives held ceremonies commemorating the anniversary of the Halabja crime and in the presence of the heads of parliamentary blocs and committees And all the representatives of the Kurdish blocs, the representatives, the general secretary of the parliament, the general directors, the parliament’s employees, the families of the martyrs, and a group of journalists, The decrees began by standing silently in front of the gate of the council, and His Excellency delivered a speech in which he recalled with great pain the tragedy of Halabja, the martyr in 1988, When the buried former regime of the Baath Party and its cronies on their head, nicknamed (Chemical Ali), bombed the safe city of Halabja with chemical weapons (weapons of mass destruction), which is banned internationally,

Which resulted in the martyrdom of more than (5000) five thousand innocent civilians in less than 20 minutes from the people of Halabja Governorate, most of them women, children and the elderly.

AL_haddad, in his speech to the participants, stated: “Unfortunately, the criminals carried out this massacre in front of international silence and silence of most countries of the world. the martyr, Halabja, is a heinous crime and genocide that shocked all humanity, and a calamity that provoked feelings and conscience, and touched the Iraqi and humanitarian conscience. The people of Kurdistan will not forget it, today recalling it with deep sadness, and those with him from among the components of the Iraqi people and all those who believe in freedom and democracy and those who love peace and humanity. A dark and black day, and all the calamities and misfortunes of the Iraqis. ”

Deputy Speaker of the Council, and on this occasion stressed the great responsibility of the representatives of the people to continue the national work in the legislative institution to ensure the achievement of social justice and the consolidation of human rights and a decent life for all Iraqis, And a safe future in which legislation and laws transformed into an impenetrable barrier to prevent the recurrence of such heinous crimes, Al-Haddad renewed his call for the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to invest the decision to transform Halabja into a governorate and to continue the exceptional efforts to develop the city, provide basic services and develop infrastructure, And he called on the federal government to fulfill its promises and obligations towards the citizens in all governorates of Iraq, especially Halabja, which has suffered for many years, and concluded the decrees by opening a photographic exhibition in which it embodied the scale of the crime and its painful details.
