On the anniversary of the Anfal operations against the people of Kurdistan, Al-Haddad stresses the need to compensate the victims of genocide crimes in the Anfal operations with the legislation and binding government decisions.

The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Bashir Khalil Al-Haddad today, Wednesday, 4/14/2021, recalled the pain of 33 years since the Anfal operations against the people of Kurdistan in 1988, which claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Kurds, and the destruction of thousands of safe villages by the army and by order of the former regime’s high commanders, and it was one of the most serious and brutal crimes in history and a heinous genocide, where families of women, youth and children were buried alive in mass graves, in a desperate attempt to obliterate the national identity of the Kurds.

The Deputy Speaker of the Council added in this issued statement: “We affirm the necessity to compensate the victims of genocide in the Anfal operations with the legislation and binding government decisions and remove the effects of the past, and we must always remind the world of these crimes and massacres committed by the buried regime against the Failians, Barzanis and the people of the South,” referring His Excellency to The importance of continuing efforts for all parties and national forces and continuing coordination and cooperation to solve problems and face challenges, and spread the culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all components of the people in a way that enhances the process of construction and reconstruction and stabilizes the pillars of security and stability throughout the country.
