Al-Kaabi: Informatics Crimes Law should have been approved years ago for the need of the judicial authority and the community to it

The first Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Karim al-Kaabi chaired on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 a joint meeting of the Chairmen of the Committees of Security& Defense, Legal, Culture, Human Rights, Labor, Services and Higher Education to discuss the law of Informatics Crimes and Freedom of Expression.
Concerning the law of Informatics Crimes, al-Kaabi remarked, “This law should have been approved years ago, especially after Iraq’s opening up to the world of the internet and the increased use of social media, which have been exploited by many parties such as organized gangs, mafias, criminals and extremist terrorist ideology to promote their ideas or commit their crimes. But in return, Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 is free of items that criminalize such acts which are of electronic origin”.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the legislation should be passed as soon as possible.
